BORDERS ART
FAIR is a contemporary art fair
divided into three appointments
(BODIES+CITIES
SKIN, FRAGMENTED IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES) that
presents collective and solo projects by leading and emerging international artists. The 2021 edition represents a forum for direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals. The art fair features paintings, sculptures, photography art, installations, video art and live performance.
The last edition of BORDERS ART FAIR took place in Venice in 2020, presenting a great selection of more than 500 art and architecture works by 250 artists and architects, coming from 36 countries. Never as this time the concept of the exhibition seems to be epochal: humankind coexists at a distance to stay closer. The new invisible borders generated by the Covid-19 are creating new ways of living everyday life, new human connections, re-thinking common spaces and entire cities. Could the new “borders” be the solution? We invite artists, architects and designers to be inspired by this new era, exploring the connection between desires, needs, fears that brings humankind to change, to transform and to evolve our inner world.
The festival focuses on the concept of “borders”, between the soul and the body, the human being and the city, the city and the ground; it analyzes the idea of human and urban borders, how people live them and how they are modified in contemporary society. Every human being lives in a world in which the limits, the borders, shape its attitudes and behaviors, limiting freedom and creating a sense of alienation. The human being reacts by breaking the limits and finding a new way of life. We imagine a world of “liquid cities”, where differences create new possibilities instead of being social barriers.
FUTURE LANDSCAPES analyzes how human creativity and imagination can shape our landscapes. Cities are leading to a new aesthetic change that aims to rebalance the combination of humans and nature, not only to restore natural systems and ecological integrity but also to deliver beautiful, engaging and remarkable landscape experiences.
The selected artists have all reflected about both existing and non-existing landscapes and worlds. Corinna Del Bianco’s project aims at documenting the diversity of the Mediterranean islands, creating fascinating photos with a dreamlike atmosphere. Nicola Ducati will make us discover the Kyrgyzy, a minority of 1200 people scattered throughout the vast territory of Pamir. At the borders of the world, the evocative beauty of the woman portrayed hides behind red cheeks like the traditional clothes of these unique people.
Casa Jaguar Studio is a multidisciplinary arts studio based in Barcelona that seeks to celebrate the history and diversity of Latinamerica through contemporary art. It experiments with a variety of materials, textures and colors to connect its members to their Latin American roots, by celebrating the wisdom, myths and stories of these people. The drawings of Michaela Ortner-Moosbrugger are inspired by Nature and its enchanting forms, which look like human bodies sometimes. For her, in fact, trees are our great grandparents and forests are our living ancient families, so she invites us to partake in the life of the woods to find our deep shelves. The sculptures of Consuelo Palma also embody the natural forms of the stones to narrate a deepest meaning. They are earthly and spiritual connections which talk us about the journey we do through this world.
On the other hand, Jane Morten also paints landscapes, but not places that can be found on a map. They appear as highly personal statements, memories of moods and experiences, since she moves on her own that you have never seen, but still recognize.
Even Joerg Hummel traduces his inner feelings and thoughts in the ‘landscape’ of the canvas. Playing with many different layers of colors and other mixed media, he realizes an intense and spatial effect. The abstract paintings of Anna Tozzi as well evocate the importance of using mixed media to create a kind of tridimensional point of view, and exceed the borders of the artwork. The resulting distinct "sign" conveys the imprint of the artist's emotional state. Friedhard Meyer represents the shape and the rhythm of the world with his big pieces, which give a sensation of depth and immeasurable, just like in front of a breathtaking landscape. Sylvia Solovyeva’s art is an attempt to go beyond the borders of reality and give free rein to her imagination: it is all about humans freeing their emotions, and it shows an explosion of exaggerated strokes and powerful tints’ contrasts.
