Visitors can experience this exceptional peace that has incased Kyoto's intricate cobbled streets and its awe-inspiring temples and shrines with Sowaka's seven-night flat-rate promotion*  (offering up to 65% discount). JPY 423,500 for seven nights. Offer valid on reservations up to the end of October 2020. Now is the time to truly step back into history, and with Sowaka's privileged access, explore some of Kyoto's 17 mesmerizing UNESCO heritage sites and the true glory of this spectacular city, its gilded architecture and celebrated gardens currently standing virtually empty.

Luxury Hotel SOWAKA, a century-year-old renovated Ryokan has 23 individually designed suites in the original Sukiya building and a separate annex, offering space, privacy, and out of this world luxury. This boutique hotel with its spacious rooms, graceful corridors reminiscent of the city's alleys, and its minimalist décor and clean lines are the perfect retreats for holidaymakers to unwind and embrace culturally immersive experiences in today's new world.

Each of the 23 well-appointed bedrooms boasts sumptuous beds each with densely cushioned camel hair and cashmere mattresses crafted in Kyoto. The hotel is a showroom of antiques unmatched by any other ryokan, all handpicked by local antique specialist Masa.  Sowaka sources its water directly from Kyoto's natural aquifer, fed via the pristine mountains surrounding the city; the water is said to be blessed with spiritual power, and its low levels of ions help richly benefit the skin. A stay at Sowaka is a truly transformative experience.

With a team of professional and discreet staff, Sowaka offers privacy like no other and their meticulous attention to detail is also reflected in their cleanliness and wellbeing programme.

The innovative and spacious restaurant, La Bombance Gion, offers impeccable, original dishes that fuse traditional Japanese cuisine with a creative modern flair. La Bombance Gion is overseen by the team behind the Tokyo establishment of the same name, which has received a Michelin star for ten consecutive years. This exquisite cuisine can now be delivered as room service.

The hotel also features an intimate private bar for four guests, a well-equipped lounge, a delightful Japanese garden where the splendor of Kyoto's remarkable seasons is on full display, and a rooftop balcony boasting wonderful views of Higashiyama.

“Sowaka” is a Sanskrit word meaning happiness or wellbeing, and is found in the ancient Buddhist sutras that echo through Kyoto's many temples. Like the word itself, Sowaka has its roots in history, infusing the authentic hospitality of a traditional ryokan with a modern sense of luxury to create a truly exceptional experience.
