Petaling Jaya
Part of greater Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya is a bustling city, where you’ll find plenty of attractions and things to do. It’s also the only city with a direct link to the capital, making it a popular destination with those who have already enjoyed what Kuala Lumpur has to offer but want to be able to access it with ease. Considered the most important and popular city in Selangor; Petaling Jaya is definitely one to pop on your list. For those wanting some fun, the Sunway Lagoon is a theme park for kids of all ages; head there first thing in the morning, make the most of the rides, waterpark, and games, before heading out for some food in the city center.
You’ll be able to make the most of the various districts; with plenty of shopping options, places to eat, and an array of destinations to unwind; the city offers-up whatever it is you’re after. Kuala Selangor
Kuala Selangor is a hidden gem that’s popular with anyone who discovers it. It’s where nature, history, and charming character, combine to create a destination that’s idyllic to explore, so you’ll want to get hold of a map, and maybe a local, to help you find the best parts. It’s known for its historical ruins and temples, and more specifically, the residents of these; the monkeys. These cheeky inhabitants will keep you entertained for hours, and will certainly create plenty of great photo opportunities. The silver leaf monkeys frequent the roadside, buildings, and trees, and you’ll be able to purchase some food for them, from dedicated street vendors. They’re quite used to human visitors, and always welcome some fresh fruit to nibble on, when posing for your Instagram.
Close to the mouth of Selangor River, is the Tanjong Keramat Fort, these ruins are a must-see for history enthusiasts, and you’ll be able to learn about Sultan Ibrahim and stand where the structure once stood tall. For more ancient tales, and beautiful, aged structures, head to Makam Keramat Anak Dara, and make the most of the shire there. Shah Alam
For those that want more of a traditional city setting; Shah Alam boasts a plethora of shopping malls, places to eat and drink, and a variety of recreational areas. Well connected to the other cities and destinations in Selangor, you’ll have no problems trying to access Shah Alam, and visiting surrounding areas will be a breeze. The Blue Mosque is a must-see; as the state mosque of Selangor, it’s one of the most significant tourist attractions you’ll find on your adventure. It’s the country’s largest mosque, and with a beautiful blue and silver dome; it’s a must for those who want to fill the camera or phone with incredible travel photographs and imagery.
The Shah Alam Agricultural Park is a quick 20-minute journey from the center, and you’ll find a tropical rainforest there, and multiple attractions. Something a little different from the array of shopping malls you’ll have shopped within, the park provides you with a different pace and atmosphere. Whether ornamental and spice gardens are your thing, or you fancy a day or two of cycling around nature; you won’t be stuck for an outdoor fix once you arrive. You can then head back to one of the many restaurants in central Shah Alam, like Section 7, Bangkok House, or Kites Restaurant. Klang
The former capital of Selangor, the royal town of Klang has plenty for visitors to enjoy. Whether you want to look at art within one of the galleries, check out some history in a museum, or can’t wait for a jaunt through the shopping mall; Klang will provide you with a great escape. You’ll even find an indoor roller coaster at Berjaya Times Square, ensuring the destination provides plenty of surprises.
